The 5th annual Operation Back to School outreach event, sponsored by First United Methodist Church, is set for the afternoon of Aug. 2, 2020.

Surrounded by boxes donated from Tecumseh Packaging Solutions are Ron Danczyk, Tecumseh Plant Manager; Tom Losh, Van Wert City Schools board member and Tecumseh employee; Jenny Yoh and Julie Larue, VWCS head cooks.

The Van Wert City Schools Food Services department would like to thank Tecumseh Packaging Solutions and Leland Smith Insurance Services/Erie Insurance for their generous donations that helped provide meals to students during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Registration for fall athletics is now open for students who will be in grades 7 - 12 for the 2020 - 2021 school year.

Greater Lima Region, Inc. has canceled Makerfest 2020, which had been scheduled for Oct. 16 – 17 at the Allen County Fairgrounds.

The 2020 Peony Pageant, originally scheduled for April 3, had to be canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In order to crown a queen and award scholarships, the contestants will be competing virtually this year and will be scored by a panel of judges. 

Mrs. Lynda Ragan, VWHS Family and Consumer Science teacher, and her FCCLA students proudly display their banners, yard signs, and car stickers as part of their bus safety project.

Van Wert High School FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) students were recently awarded $2,500 after being hand-selected by the national FCCLA for their outstanding achievement in the FACTS (Families Acting for Traffic Safety) program.

The man whose name has become synonymous with the Van Wert DARE program, Officer Greg Blackmore, will be retiring from that position April 15 after 24 years in that position, and 30 years on the VWPD.

During Van Wert's first Board of Education meeting of the new year, Board members approved a resignation at the end of the school year due to retirement from Superintendent Vicki Brunn. Brunn is in her second year as Van Wert City Schools Superintendent.

Motivational speaker Ray Lozano and his daughter, Brooke, were in Van Wert County this week to speak to students and adults about the dangers of substance abuse — drugs and alcohol — as well as the dangers related to smoking and vaping.
