The Lady Cougars nearly upset tennis powerhouse Bath on Monday in a 2-3 loss.

"Bath has a great team, and their season shows it," said Van Wert Head Coach Katie Peterson. "They are very competitive, and we were happy with how we matched up to them."

Allie Etter and Grace Lott had a tough time in each of their matches against sisters Esther and Ruby Bolon.

Etter fell to Esther Bolon in two sets 4-6, 1-6 while Lott also lasted only two sets in her loss to Ruby Bolon 1-6, 0-6.

Lizzie Rutkowski rebounded for the Lady Cougars in her third singles match, however, as she yielded no points to Lexi White in a 6-0, 6-0 win.

Natalie Benner and Sophie Rutkowski lost to Elena Oliver and Anne Oliver 1-6, 2-6 in the first doubles match.

Jamie Burenga and Tayzia Havill won Van Wert's second and final match of the night in a three set battle against Rachel Wilcox and Chloe Rieman 0-6, 6-4, 6-3.

"We are getting excited for WBL's next week, and we're ready to use the experience we've gained during the season," said Peterson.

The Lady Cougars will play their next match on Monday at home against Ayersville.
